Workshop: From Post-Roman Multiplicity to Carolingian Convergence.

On Monday June 17th and Tuesday June 18th, the SFB Visions of Community will organize the third of a series of workshops on Historiographies of Identity, entitled:
From Post-Roman Multiplicity to Carolingian Convergence

In the course of this workshop, various scholars from Vienna and abroad will tackle questions concerned with the development of historiography in the post-Roman successor states in Europe. The focus will be on the social function of these narratives, as well as on the choices made by authors, not only regarding the chosen genre, but also concerning the specific resources for ethnic, political and religious identifications they had at their disposal – and the ‘visions of community’ that emerge from their efforts to construct history.

The workshop is set to start at 9h00 [ST], and will take place in the Seminar Rooms on the ground floor of theInstitute for Medieval Studies (Wohllebengasse 12-14, 1040 Wien). Please see the attached document or contact rutger.kramer@oeaw.ac.at for more information.
