is an e-portal created in the context of the research project "Ideologies under scrutiny: Differentiated perceptions of Roman imperial ideals in Byzantine society (7th-12th c.)" that was financed by the Austrian Science Fund (Project-no. P24752) and was hosted at the University of Vienna between 2012 and 2015. Its aim is to promote the exchange of scholarly knowledge and comparative work on the project's research subjects.
Apart from providing information on
the activities and results of the project, it aims to offer a forum for
scholars and students of Late Antiquity, Byzantium and Medieval Europe,
focusing on social history in general and questions of ideology and identity in
particular, in order to exchange findings and information in their fields of research.
Within the framework of scholarly
cooperation and interaction, the blog will:
* disseminate news about scholarly events connected to the project or related to
the project's thematic areas. For this reason, we invite researchers to use the
blog to announce conferences, presentations and new publications relevant to
the blog's research subjects.
* function
as a database of relevant research (on doctoral, postdoctoral and senior level)
that is currently carried out in universities and research institutions
worldwide. For this reason, we invite researchers to present their thematically
relevant research projects through the blog (title, summary).
* disseminate information on
source material, field bibliography as well as on bibliography of critical
theory (e.g. sociological theory, ideology critique, modern literary theory). For this reason, we invite researchers to make suggestions that will help to enrich the current bibliographical lists of the blog on a regular basis.
